Art Fiedler
GUEST TEACHER BIO
Art’s journey to yoga was quite unexpected. One day, he was sitting at his desk job and saw his whole life in front of him: and it was not what he wanted. Chasing money & status was not making him happy – so Art jumped on a last minute flight to Japan with no plan at all. He ended up backpacking the world, seeking perspective and a calling. He found exactly what he was looking for: yoga. Art had been practicing for years, but wanted to share his love for yoga to inspire others.
After traveling to over 50 countries and gaining perspective, Art is now happily back in Canada teaching at his studio Art of Yoga. He completed the RYT-200 Elements of Power training at the famous Yoga Barn in Ubud, Bali with Paul Teodo & Byron de Marse. He now teaches and manages his yoga studio in Thunder Bay, Ontario, located right on Lake Superior. He teaches a variety of styles (Vinyasa, Restorative/Gentle, Power), but his favorite is Hatha.
In such a busy world, yoga has never been more important. Unplugging and simply slowing down is what we all need more of to balance our hectic lives.
Teaching Philosophy
“Leave your ego at the door.”
Art has experienced ego & competition in both himself and others (especially being male!). Unlike sports or the workforce, yoga is about acceptance and letting go. Physically, we all have different bodies, so we will all look different in various poses. Mentally, we also come to the yoga mat in different states. Our backgrounds, experiences and genes have curated who we are.
Art loves that yoga is more about the mental aspect: what’s going on inside. His straight-up and direct teaching style keeps students in the moment. He loves utilizing props to make poses work for all bodies: everyone is welcome on the yoga mat.
Art’s intention is to make students feel safe and open to their yoga practice. He can teach a high paced class with energetic music, but can also slow down and hold space for stillness in class. The yin-yang aspect of yoga is so important to him, as he’s an active guy that knows the importance of the yin balance. Art takes his yoga practice and teachings seriously, but also knows how to have fun and have a laugh!
WORKSHOPS
During this yoga retreat, Art will be offering two special workshops for our guests. Please see all the details below. If you have any questions you can reach out to our Reservations Team HERE.
Backbend / Heart Opener Workshop
We all need more backbending in our life! Humans these days do way too much sitting, hunching, looking at phones, etc. Backbends rewrite our spines the way they should be. This workshop will go over various heart openers, along with modifications for every body. Props will also be utilized throughout. You’re guaranteed to feel more open after this workshop!
Crow Arm-Balancing Workshop
Everyone loves arm balances in class! Have you always wanted to learn to do this pose? This fun all-levels workshop will really breakdown Crow pose (Bakasana), and show ways to modify. Art will demonstrate and guide students how to properly warm up for this pose. There are ways to make Crow accessible for everyone, but also to make this pose even more difficult. Once you’re comfortable, you can bring this arm balance into your own practice in creative ways.
***Each Workshop is 75 minutes and the cost is $40 (or $70 for both).
