Retreat Dates & Pricing

Our weekly retreats run all year long, so when you book your stay with us the FIRST STEP is to choose the week that works best with your schedule. Every week we have different guest yoga teachers from around the world that come to teach at Anamaya bringing their unique talents and energy. Our retreats run from Saturday to Saturday. 

The price of your retreat starts with your BASE RATE (which includes your accommodations and meals). Excursions, workshops and other add-ons you choose to customize your week, will be added to your final bill at Anamaya. Please see below for the workshops this teacher will be providing.

Joan discovered yoga more than 20 years ago as an athlete and a professional in the fitness industry. As an athlete, marathon runner and triathlete, she was always looking for complimentary workout options that supported her athletic activities. As a fitness professional, trainer, leader and consultant, she wanted to meet the needs or her clients with activities that combined participation and challenge with acceptance and success.  With an initial goal of an alternate physical workout her introduction to yoga began with Ashtanga Yoga. She discovered quickly that her Yoga practice presented opportunities and benefits that exceeded the physical experience and after several years of yoga practice she was enjoying the practice of the commitment to movement and breath, the connection of the mind and the body and still realizing the physical benefits of enhanced strength, flexibility and postural alignment.

Her Yoga teacher training began in Toronto, Ontario with the Level 1 and 2 certifications in “Fast Track Training “offered at Maureen Rae’s Yoga Studio.  Maureen’s authenticity and sincerity in her approach to supporting and inspiring new yoga teachers with a foundation in tradition, spirituality, sound biomechanics and safety and an overall acceptance of all students motivated Joan’ practice and teaching.

After several visits to Anamaya and some wonderful experiences with the teachers there, she decided that Anamaya would be the place to complete her next step of Yoga teacher training.  She was so grateful for the opportunity to attend the 200 hr RYT Yoga teacher training in July 2018 at Anamaya.  The training was provided by Antoine Tinawi, Pamela Gooria and Michelle Carroll from Montreal’s Om West.  This training provided an intense traditional Hatha Yoga training, deepening and enriching her yoga experience and her ability to share this with her students.

She has now completed 500 hr RYT training in Edmonton with Michele Theoret at Empowered Yoga.  Her knowledge and practice has grown with advanced Asana and Flow , Restorative and Yin Yoga Certifications as well as Yoga for specialized and specific considerations including; Athletes, Therapy and Pain Care, Sustainability and Self Myofascial Release .

Joan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, a Special Education degree and a Master’s in Business Administration. She is internationally certified through the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association as a trainer of fitness leaders.  She currently offers one on one personal fitness training, yoga training and a small group Yoga program, “Yoga with Friends”.  She lives and practices in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

Joan’s philosophy in guiding a yoga practice is to allow participants to come to their mats to practice at their own level for their own personal reasons, always feeling respected and supported.  Although yoga provides a platform of common ground and community, it also acknowledges and accepts the individual’s reasons and abilities for practicing.  She is honored to be joining the valued guests of Anamaya on the yoga deck and looks forward to sharing a warm and wonderful week of yoga practice.


 Workshop “Inside Out”

When you take care of the inside, the outside falls into place

As we continue to strive for our goals of weight loss and enhanced fitness and health levels, we often forget, or maybe don’t know, that so many of these goals happen in response to internal realizations and practices. Please join us for the “Inside Out” workshop and enjoy this hand on experience of the time and space to connect to internal practices that will manifest themselves as external or “outside “results.

The program begins with an invitation to a daily meditation before our morning yoga practice to celebrate the start of another beautiful day at Anamaya. The 2.5-hour workshop will offer an introduction to mindfulness and information and a practice presented with the intention of understanding and integrating it into our physical and emotional body and our daily lives with the following:

  •  The offering of a purposeful daily meditation practice.
  • Introduction to fascia in the body and the techniques and skills that we can learn and use for the purpose of releasing and relaxing through self -myofascial release.
  • The presentation and practical experience with a yoga asana practice designed to support and develop strength and flexibility and balance and stability, both physically and mentally.
  • Pull everything together with goal setting and the integration of the workshop information and practice to help realize the individual expressed goals.
  • This workshop is available to all levels of practice, offering a variety of options and alternatives based on the individual’s comfort and practice level.

Morning Meditation

It isn’t a secret that meditation is good for us… But it might be a secret that it doesn’t require a lot of time or equipment investment. You don’t have to be an experienced yogi, a monk or even a spiritual person to enjoy the benefits from a regular meditation practice.  It is good for all of us.

Meditation helps us feel good by causing the pituitary gland to secrete endorphins, and activating the area of the brain that is associated with positive emotions and experiences. Anytime is a good time to meditate but first thing in the morning on the lovely, natural outside deck at Anamaya provides the perfect setting for an early morning meditation.

Join us for 5 days of morning meditation before our yoga practice and set the tone for your day with a feeling of calm and peace, focus and clarity and an overall feeling of well-being. This practice offers meditation space and guidance for the beginner to the most experienced practitioner.

This meditation practice is designed to complement the “Inside Out” workshop offerings. Guests are welcome to attend the meditation practice without attending the workshop.
