LOLA’S TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I practice and teach yoga for personal power, healing, self-exploration, and growth. I practice meditation for cleansing of the mind and access to the subconscious and collective field. I practice transformational life coaching as a tool for creating an inspired, directed life aligned with dharma (life purpose). These tools combined create the most powerful healing and personal transformation I have ever encountered, and it is these tools I will share with you during our week together.
I teach Forrest Yoga, a breath-based, mindful approach to vinyasa yoga designed to go deep into cellular tissue thru long-held and challenging pose sequences. Forrest Yoga excels at healing trauma and disconnection, building strength, and nurturing a state of embodiment. I also teach alignment-oriented vinyasa yoga, a practice designed to help students become more aware by finding correct alignment in the yoga poses, which helps prana (vital energy) circulate thru the body-mind. I infuse my yoga teaching with functional movement exercises that build strength and coordination. Challenging ourselves physically is necessary to reclaim vitality and self-confidence. The daily morning practices will be informed by these approaches.
The evening sessions will be a combination of Yin Yoga (a practice of long-held poses designed to target the fascia, or connective tissues, of the body), gentle Hatha yoga, and meditation. The fascia is where we store emotional as well as physical trauma, and true healing must address these deep layers of the body.
The Focus of This Week is Spirituality & Personal Growth:
The Art & Science of Meditation

Introduction to the Chakras
This 90-min workshop is $50.
Learn about the chakras, what they are, where they are located, what they mean, and how to use them as part of a personal growth practice. Part lecture and part guided activity, this workshop includes a guided chakra meditation at the end. You will learn about the chakras on an intellectual, energetic, and symbolic level.
How to Uplevel Your Relationship Using NBC (needs based communication)
This 90-min workshop is $50.
Needs-Based Communication is modeled on Non-Violent Communication or NVC, which is a system of communication developed by American clinical psychologist Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960s. In NBC (and NVC), we learn how to communicate our needs. When we speak from our needs, we avoid a lot of interpersonal tension based on assuming or projecting needs, hinting at needs, or flat-out denying needs (and still getting upset when others can’t read our minds). In this workshop, you’ll learn how to listen and speak in a non-reactive, compassionate way that is based on getting needs met. With these simple, easy to remember techniques, you’ll enhance your relationships and communication skills and have an easier time asking for what you need.
Cacao Ceremony with Cristiane Machado
This 90-minute workshop is $50.
- Cacao History
- Sipping Cacao
- Heart Opening Meditation and Practice
Native to tropical areas of Latin America, cacao is chocolate before the processing; an unsugared, unadulterated form of one of our world’s favorite sweets. Known as a super food, cacao is high in magnesium, calcium, antioxidants, and iron – and is an incredible mood booster!
One of its components is anandamide, a neurotransmitter known as the bliss molecule. For those with an interest or background in yoga and/or Hindu philosophy, you may know that the word “ananda” means bliss and refers to a higher state of being. Cacao facilitates our goal of achieving that blissful state and deepening our connection to our truest selves, Mother Nature, and universal oneness. According to an indigenous myth, when the balance between humankind and nature is threatened, cacao comes from the rainforest to open our hearts and return us to harmony.
For those of you who know that your connection with chocolate runs deep, we invite you to experience another dimension of that connection – a deeply spiritual or shamanic one. Ceremonial cacao partners with us, facilitating the journey inward and the discovery of our truest, highest, most love-filled selves.
All workshops can be purchased at a package price of $150. Lola will also be offering meditation daily. This is complementary and included as part of the retreat.
