GUEST TEACHER BIO
Lucy Hamel, originally from Boston, Massachusetts has been immersed in her love of body work for more than thirty years. Diagnosed as a child with a leg discrepancy, she was given the option of surgery or a future back brace. Instead, she found healing through her love of movement and self-belief. Naturally, as an adult, Lucy became a personal trainer who focused on alignment. At twenty-four years old, she moved to Greece and continued personal training with numerous clients of all ages, learning the Greek language in the process. Following her careful study of her students, she became acutely aware of how energy or thought patterns could affect a person’s ability to heal, change or grow with ease. Her desire to understand the energy patterns she was picking up on in others led her to become a reiki practitioner in her thirties. Not long after that, she began to study the power of the breath and became a rebirth breath work practitioner for which she is now well known and leads retreats and workshops internationally. In a passion for continued self-understanding, Lucy’s study and practice of yoga also deepened. Since her first yoga teacher training in 2008, she has continued to study as well as keep her own practice as sacred. In recent years she has added tension release training to her tool box. You might find her adding in elements of various techniques into a class.
A style of Yoga flow has developed through the years that adds in elements of play (which she considers vital for all of us) and guides you into a deeper sense of vitality and awareness. Simply opening a hand differently in an asana can move feelings though the heart or shift the quality of an inhale. Questions or invitations to open your imagination can have a profound effect. Her classes bring challenges that will make you shake and smile, as well as focus greatly on the heart and core. Music and mood will vary as much as experiences in life do. Her intuitive ability to see each student as a unique individual adds greatly to the growth you will find during your retreat.
“In respect to the yoga, I effortlessly accomplished asanas I had never been able to master even in my youth. My posture, flexibility, physical strength and endurance mirrored all my internal positive changes Lucy had magically weaved in throughout the week. As I left for home, I had fallen hopelessly in love… with my ever-growing self!” – Lucy
***Our yoga classes are for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced yogis.
Yoga not only offers me a much healthier body, it brings presence and awareness. This place where I can truly sense how thoughts move through me and effect me. I can sense air entering and exiting, sometimes the breath moves on its own without my instruction. Yet I am also able to bring awareness to it and to draw it in, pause and allow it to swirl though me and then slowly let it go.
With such actions the mind begins to slow down too, right? And when the mind slows, awareness begins to expand to a higher level. Your slow down has left this fabulous space for insights of truth.
Sensing the body in movement or in stillness brings into clarity how you have been living, thinking, feeling and even sleeping. Its a comedy of sorts that we don’t always sense how interconnected the thoughts, feelings, breath and body are. Here lies my passion and you will know that pretty quickly once we meet. My narration, music and practice invite you on a ride to listen, pay attention and observe all you are capable of. I think that is the heart of my philosophy for yoga and life. The awareness of the absolute magic of it all and your part in it.
My philosophy grows. My thoughts on how to use yoga continually expand as I practice and have the honor of watching it’s effects on students and myself. The more I practice, the more it follows me everywhere in life. One thing I have remained steady with is to make the practice fun and hold meaning. Like life. The biggest gift of the practice is that moment you step on your mat you are visiting you.
Once Upon a Time Workshop
In Once Upon a Time, we look at the hero of your life story. YOU.
We begin from a beginning, the you before words, and we move forward from there.
What information do you consciously and unconsciously carry?
What imprints and ideas is it time to improve on?
How you have been using your gifts?
What thoughts or old stories need a new perspective?
Have you been using what happened to you as a reason for not being powerful?
If someone were reading the book of you, what do you think would be the most captivating chapter?
Above are a portion of the questions that might begin our discussion before we breathe and reflect.
The power of rebirthing breathwork is that in this state you are the experiencer as well as the observer of past incidents that may emerge, enabling you to release and re-interpret what happened in the past from a newly conscious and fresh perspective.
Through conscious connected breathing, we accumulate life force (prana, chi, ki) which starts to move freely through your body (experienced as tingling, energy rushes or waves).
This loosens up stored blockages held in your four-body energy system (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual), thus working on all four levels at the same time.
Conscious breathing is an extremely supportive tool for witnessing and amending old thought patterns and cellular memory to allow healing and conscious change to manifest.
Four-day workshop, 2 hrs per day (optional 2-day workshop is available). The price for 2 days is $110, price for 4 days is $220.
