Our weekly retreats run all year long, so when you book your stay with us the FIRST STEP is to choose the week that works best with your schedule. Every week we have different guest yoga teachers from around the world that come to teach at Anamaya bringing their unique talents and energy. Our retreats run from Saturday to Saturday.

We have a yoga retreat package for everyone in order to customize your experience, and the cost of the package you choose is added to your BASE RATE. GUEST TEACHER BIO
Toby is a vagabondess and storyteller with a metaphorical closet full of hats. As a trained Empowerment Self-Defense Instructor and Yoga Teacher, she regularly facilitates workshops and retreats to empower, inspire, and transform. Toby is also Chief Storyteller at NuMundo, the digital platform for transformational travel.
A full-time lover of movement, food, and words, she expresses light and dark through many forms of dance, poetry, songwriting, and flow arts.
Toby has been teaching yoga for ten years, everywhere and anywhere. From open fields in Sicily and beautiful studios in Vermont, to attics in Helsinki and rooftops on the stunning Zanzibar coast, she brings this practice wherever she goes. Since completing her 200-hour TTC with Tribe Yoga in Goa, India in January 2013, she has developed her own style of teaching that combines the rigor and tradition of Ashtanga philosophy with the joy, playfulness and flow that characterize her lifestyle. She also shares partner yoga, yin, acro, and meditation techniques—always with a focus on listening to our inner teacher and learning from our body’s wisdom.
Students describe her classes as challenging yet accessible, calm but engaging, and respectful but firm. She finds great joy in holding space for others to deeply connect with their breath, their bodies, and their minds.
For the moment, Toby lives in Costa Rica. (She came for a masters degree in Media, Peace and Conflict Studies from the UN-mandated University for Peace—and stayed for the papaya, sunshine, and conscious community.)
EMPOWERMENT SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOP
Ready to feel strong, confident, and ready for anything?
Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) was created by female martial artists who recognized that the "self-defense" they were being taught was catered to how men fight men. They developed ESD to incorporate the social and cultural contexts specific to violence perpetrated against vulnerable populations. This workshop will be open to all genders, and skills taught are valuable for everyone!
In an Empowerment Self-Defense workshop, participants learn:
- How to express a strong NO
- Skills for moving through the world and traveling with confidence
- Simple and effective physical techniques for self-defense
- How to set strong boundaries and enforce them
- Assertive communication skills
- Fun games and exercises to train verbal and physical skills
- The universal language of boundaries and self-confidence.
