Yoga & Surf Package -

anamaya: surf school

It’s no secret that Costa Rica is well known worldwide to be a hotbed of surfing and yoga. Surfing at Anamaya is for those who are complete beginners and want to learn how to surf, as well as for seasoned surfers who want to take their skill level to new heights or simply just rent a board and go. Our instructors will provide you with individual attention and modify their lessons to meet your needs and goals so you can learn at your own pace.

Along with a week full of catching waves (5 sessions) and feeling the power of the ocean beneath your feet, you’ll also have the option to enjoy daily yoga sessions to improve your flexibility and strength. Many avid surfers, in order to enhance stamina and prevent injuries, commonly practice yoga.  And if you’re feeling sore, you’ll be in the right spot for exceptional body work!

Basic Surfing Safety Tips

Anamaya’s Soul Surfing Yoga Retreat offers adventure, relaxation, and overall wellness set in a perfect tropical paradise. We also have massage and a plethora of spa services available to our guests, as well as a number of exciting excursions that Costa Rica is well known for. We will do our best to fulfill all your wildest expectations about what a retreat vacation in paradise should be.

Yoga at Anamaya

We practice an energizing flow 6 mornings a week before breakfast on our main yoga deck overlooking 270 degrees of epic ocean and coastline views. Then in the early evening around sunset 4 days a week we hold a more relaxing and restorative type practice on our lower yoga deck.

Where We Surf:

We take a van each day to the best possible surf spots in the area, depending on the size of the waves, tides, and the dynamics of the group. The waves are good enough here that surfing is available with Anamaya all year round! Our two favorite spots are Playa Grande in Montezuma, and Playa Hermosa in Santa Teresa:
Playa Grande of Montezuma, Costa Rica

PLAYA GRANDE

One of the country’s most beautiful beaches, it is a 30-minute walk through beach and jungle trails, past waterfalls and beautiful scenery. The waves here are fairly small, but consistent and no rocks. It’s excellent for beginners.

Playa Hermosa of Santa Teresa

PLAYA HERMOSA

Just north of Santa Teresa is the prettiest and broadest beach around, with larger waves and a point break. It’s worth the drive to come out here, and we take Anamaya’s guests here every Wendesday afternoon for a sunset excursion with optional surf lesson.

Costa Rica:

Curious about Costa Rica? Costa Rica is one of the most magical and special places on earth. Costa Rica was recently rated to be the Happiest country on earth by an independent survey. See this CNN Article about Costa Rica. In addition, the surfing beaches we will take you to, in Malpais, Santa Teresa, and Malpais, were rated among the top 10 in the world by Forbes Magazine.

THE ANAMAYA VIBE

Anamaya Resort opened in December of 2009 and we have attracted a group of like-minded guests who are into health, wellness and adventure. A week with us is nothing less than transformative. Our mission is to create an environment where our guests will connect with nature, connect with other people from around the world, and connect with themselves.

Our staff treat our guests like family, our healthy farm-to-table food is prepared with love, and many of our guests become life long friends. See what some of our guests are saying about us:

Can't say enough about how special the Anamaya Resort is. The atmosphere is super friendly, casual and relaxing which I appreciate because we (husband, adult daughter and her friend) were not looking for a stuffy hotel type of service/environment. Gorgeous setting, lovely and clean accommodations with great views, genuine staff, excellent spa treatment selection and service, great yoga classes twice a day (Banyan Gallagher....but the teachers vary from week to week) and loved the camaraderie built over the week with fellow visitors (15 guests total the week we were there). A highlight was the tour of their organic farm where all their delicious food comes from and the beach trip with all the guests and staff (surfing for those that wanted it). Will come again!

Testimonial: "Treasure in Paradise..."

"My stay at Anamaya was the most refreshing vacation of my life... I awoke each morning for an hour of yoga on the most beautiful yoga deck with a panoramic view of the jungle and the Pacific. The rest of my days were filled with a swim in the infinity pool, zip lining, waterfall climbing, aerial silks, Zumba and surfing... the pictures do not do it justice. You cannot smell or feel the amazing vibe it has. I have booked a return trip to Anamaya in a few months. So fortunate to have stumbled upon this treasure in paradise."

Testimonial: "Amazing Yoga and Surf Retreat..."

"My friends and I just returned from a week long yoga retreat at Anamaya and I have had a difficult time finding words to describe how amazing the entire trip was!!! Not only did our retreat to Anamaya allow us to escape the stresses our daily lives (if only for a few days), but the memories with the new friends we made, the staff at Anamaya and the people of Costa Rica will remain with me forever.... The food was unbelievably fresh and good, and I have missed putting coconut milk in my coffee ever since! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!"a

Testimonial: "One of the Most Amazing Experiences of my Life..."

"I had the honor of staying at Anamaya and teaching and taking yoga for a seven day retreat. It is one of the most peaceful and tranquil places on earth. The facilities are beautiful and the view is breath-taking. Doing yoga on the open air deck facing the ocean was a dream come true. The food was excellent and the package included three meals per day with great variety. Everything home made and organic. Delicious. Relaxing by the edgeless pool or on a hammock was my favorite thing... but the best part of the experience was the staff at Anamaya. They were all wonderful and did everything to make my stay excellent..."

Testimonial: "Paradise found..."

"Doing early morning yoga on the deck that overlooks the beautiful Pacific Ocean is something I'll never forget. My mind definitely wandered more than it should during yoga as I took the amazing views. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. It's even more beautiful in person... We were very lucky and people who started the week as strangers quickly became our friends. We had many a laugh while sitting around the pool... We'll be back..."
