Why FSM?

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a therapeutic approach that utilizes low-level electrical currents with specific resonant frequencies to target various conditions in various tissues, promoting healing and especially pain relief.  It’s being applied effectively by many practitioners, actually approximately 1500 world wide. While not an exhaustive list, some commonly treated conditions include:

  • Acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Asthma
  • Arthritis
  • Burns
  • Concussions
  • Disc injuries
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Kidney stone pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendinopathy
  • Torticollis
  • Viscerally-referred pain
  • Wounds and scar tissue
  • Long covid
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Lyme disease
  • and more…

These applications reflect the diverse ways in which FSM is being integrated into therapeutic practices, offering promising results for a wide range of conditions. However, individual outcomes may vary, and FSM should be considered as part of a comprehensive treatment approach.

“I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy in Boulder, CO. FSM has absolutely transformed my outcomes as a Physical Therapist. We learn as DPTs to approach patient care holistically, and FSM offers ways to treat the true root cause of movement or motor control dysfunction no matter what it happens to be. If you are a medical practitioner seeking true transformative healing capacity for your patients, FSM is the way to go.”

Dr. Carolyn McMakin, MA, DC

Dr. Carolyn McMakin, MA, DC, is a distinguished chiropractor and researcher renowned for developing Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) therapy. Embarking on her medical journey later in life, she enrolled in pre-med courses and attended Western States Chiropractic College, fulfilling a lifelong aspiration.

In 1996, Dr. McMakin began utilizing specific frequencies derived from a 1920s list to treat patients with complex pain conditions. Recognizing the reproducibility of her results, she started teaching FSM protocols in 1997, aiming to share this innovative approach with other healthcare professionals.

Her contributions to the field include authoring the textbook “Frequency Specific Microcurrent in Pain Management” (2010) and “The Resonance Effect” (2017), which detail the development and applications of FSM therapy.

Dr. McMakin has lectured at institutions such as the National Institutes of Health and at international conferences on fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes. She continues to teach FSM seminars globally and maintains a part-time clinical practice in Oregon.

“I absolutely love FSM. It’s completely changed my practice. I recommend it all the time to my acupuncture colleagues and to chiro’s and massage therapists. It’s so immediate and pairs well with acupuncture. Best thing I’ve added to practice – and I get to see miracles daily in my office.”

— Pam Kososki, LAc

“I have been using the Frequency Specific Microcurrent in my office for many years now and I can confidently say that it is one of the most powerful healing tools we have available to us. Our units run all day long from the second clinic opens till the last patients leaves. When I originally went to the seminar I wanted to learn how to apply the technology but I found it so much more helpful than that. Filled with clinical pearls and outside the box thinkers, it was incredibly valuable. Carolyn McMakin has brought us in natural healthcare something extremely special. I firmly believe that in order to get the best results with patients we have to combine biology, chemistry and the laws of physics. That is why when we put together our training program on dealing with more complex disease processes, there is no better tool to allow us to apply all the sciences than the Frequency Specific Microcurrent. It has my highest recommendation.”
